He got his super powers by an accident (which wasn't accident but I dont want to give spoilers) he was struck by lightning while particle accelerator exploding (which is some kind of radiation blast) he was in coma at S.T.A.R. labs for 9 months after struck by lightning.
When he woke up he realized something is going wrong when he learnt that he has some super powers then he joined to Harrison Wells's team they helped him to become more powerfull just like a real superhero.
